Rated 1 out of 5 by from 888LM failure caused garage door to open I too just experienced the frequently reported problem of a failed 888LM unit causing my garage door to open. This morning I noticed that my 888LM MyQ wall unit was dead: No lights and the garage door was open. I did a few Google searches and found this to be a common problem. I called Chamberlain/Liftmaster technical support and was told that some of the 888LM’s had a defect in which they would cause the garage door to open when they failed. The rep I talked to kindly arranged to send me a new 888LM. The newer ones, he said, did not have this defect. I recall his stating that the problem occured with units made before 2016. The manufacture date (located on the back of the 888LM) of mine was 2013. I wonder if others have had failures with newer 888LMs? I also noticed that Chamberlain/Liftmaster has introduced a deadbolt product that actuall uses a deadbolt to secure the door in its closed position, and I wonder if this new product is a response to “phantom operation” problems like the one caused by failed 888LMs. Given this issue, I can’t recommend this product. Before buying I would advise everyone to get a guarantee against this problem from Chamberlain/Liftmaster. If the problem is truly fixed, they should have no problem providing one. Otherwise, I would strongly advise not purchasing it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid these controllers I have replaced three of these in the last 4 months. Like others, my garage door starts opening and closing randomly...and it's happened in the middle of the night. Unit is now unresponsive. What's the deal with these things, LiftMaster?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Security - ?? I have been using this controller for about 4 years. I purchased it for and loved the auto close feature, but about 3 weeks ago the 5 and 10 minute auto-close options disappeared. No problem, I always had it set for 1-minute. But, while on vacation the unit failed and I returned to an open door. NOT GOOD, could have been open for several days. Though I believe that had the door been open when it failed, it would have closed. Lift-Master/Chamberlain need to fix this. They should look into the auto-close circuit, My unit lost the 5 & 10 minute close intervals shortly before the unit failed. The circuit should not activate upon failure. I see I am not the only one this has happened to. The reason for 2-stars instead of 1-star - The garage door safety features and remotes continued to operate after the 888LM failure (Wall Controller).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed For everyones security purposes the 888lm will leave your garage door open when it goes bad. I have three garage doors and have replaced two of these openers already in less then a year. This morning I wake up to my garage door opening and closing on its own which is unacceptable. I’m calling Liftmaster this morning!!
