Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very good replacement for my old 398LM When my old 398LM failed, I purchased this unit as its natural replacement. Upon installation of the new unit, my garage door acquired a mind of its own. For no apparent reasons, the red learn light and the amber light will start blinking together, the unit will emit a buzzing sound and the garage door would start to open and close at its will making impossible to operate it. As a result I had to disable the new unit. After several days of troubleshooting activities, through my garage door service company, I discovered that the unit is not exactly pug and play but - for a successful installation - you have to erase all the previous remote controls/MyQ units from the existing motor. To do that, push and hold the Learn button on the motor until the amber light turns off (about 6 sec) and then release the button. Immediately, push and hold again the Learn button until the amber light turns off (about 6 sec) and then release the button. Repeat this sequence two more times just to be sure. At this point, reprogram your remote controls and your control panel will work as intended.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Failure, am on 2nd unit now I purchased this with the internet gateway in Dec. 2014, to go with my 5 year old opener. I love that I can close it remotely. When it works, it is great. However, at least 3 times, overnight, my door mysteriously opened. I have an alert to tell me if it opens at night. I asked support about this, and didn’t really get an answer. After the 3rd time, I set up a schedule to send the “close the door” command every hour overnight in case it opens and I slept through the alert. This is really not the answer. The last month or so, I have been having trouble opening the door with the remote, almost like there was interference. We have been super cold since Christmas, when the wall control stopped working. The remote still worked (better than it had been), but not the app or the wall control. So I just installed a new wall control today, it is very responsive. Sometime with the previous one, I would have to press it more than once. So we’ll see if the phantom opening stops and how long this unit lasts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 888LM Failure I have an 8 year old opener system; wall control went bad. When I called I asked if the 888LM was "compatible" with my system and was told "yes". After a long series of events (going through two 888LM units) I learned that the unit requires exactly 24 volts of power to operate properly. Checking my output on the 3800PLD, it only kicks out 19.38 volts. Therefore the issue was not the 888LM but my unit. Turns out there is only one unit compatible with my opener unless I buy a $100+ control board and install in the opener to get the exact 24 volts needed. before you buy the 888 or any other opener investigate the voltage required. I am certain that is what many of the problems on this review site resulted from

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Control Panel Don't know why these units can't last as long as the rest of the unit. Had to replace all three of our 3 year old units within 2 months. Ordered replacement for the next round of failures.
